Purple/Yellow tool TRILOBITE with Purple Velcro

The forefront of Emergency Cutting Tool (E.C.T.) dynamics and design, the EEZYCUT TRILOBITE was developed for divers, mariners, mountaineers, extreme sports adventurers and rescue service providers who demand a tool that delivers a swift, safe, efficient cut.

Why Eezycut

The unique cutting mechanism of the EEZYCUT TRILOBITE provides the cleanest, sharpest, most effortless cutting action available. Everyone experiences the “wow factor” the first time they use this ergonomically designed cutting tool, as it slices and dices its way through line and webbing. The EEZYCUT TRILOBITE is rated to cut line with ease, repeatedly, up to 8mm thick, and can easily cut through larger line. TheTRILOBITE also makes light work of all types of webbing. With replacement blades, this cutting tool provides you with the best cut, every time.

A Safer Cutting Tool

Open faced diving knives are notoriously dangerous, making them generally unsuitable in response to an emergency situation. TheTRILOBITE‘s custom ergonomic design provides a level of protection, while still delivering an easy, clean and efficient cut, making it the perfect emergency cutting tool.

The Sharpest Cut – Every Time

The ergonomically patented design uses a longer section of the cutting edge, prolonging the integrity of the blade by dispersing the erosion. As the line is pushed onto the blade by the frame of the tool, the cut is much more stable, which not only provides a much cleaner splice, but helps the blade retain it’s edge. Other “closed” cutting tools have one pivotal stress point on the cutting surface which can quickly corrode and weaken.

Specialty Blades

Normal “marine grade” stainless steel, in terms of diving knives, is generally the name given to 420 grade stainless steel, also known as “cutlery grade”. While it has a good corrosion capacity in water, it does not have such a good capacity to hold a sharp edge. Titanium can not create as sharp an edge as stainless steel. The grade of stainless steel used in the EEZYCUT TRILOBITE (440a) is known for its capacity to hold an extremely sharp edge, while having very good corrosive qualities. When the blade loses its edge or starts to corrode, you can easily put a new blade in, and yet again have the sharpest, cleanest cut in the water. Washing in fresh water after diving is recommended for all stainless steel knives and blades. All stainless steel which is used in salt water needs to be treated with care. Carefully coating any stainless steel blade in normal divers silicone grease prior to salt water usage significantly prolongs the life of the blade.

EEZYCUT only recommend EEZYCUT blades. Most carpet blades are thicker, and do not fit the TRILOBITE.

Effortless Cut

The “WOW” factor that users experience when they first use the TRILOBITEis a reflection of it’s unique and incredibly efficient cutting mechanism.

Replacement Blades

The replaceable blades allow the user to always have the sharpest machined edge, just when they need it most. Nothing is as sharp as a machined edge, which means the sharpness of most open faced knives deteriorate in their effectiveness from the moment of purchase. Replacement blades with a machined edge make sense.

Double-Sided Design

The double-sided design means that it can be deployed more efficiently in a variety of situations, with less fiddling around. It also provides a level of redundancy.

The EEZYCUT TRILOBITE has two sides, and so it has REDUNDANCY built into it’s design, but nothing can replace the true redundant safety feature of two completely independent E.C.T.’s. The TRILOBITE‘s size and effectiveness fits in easily to any inventory of cutting tools, or for carrying multiple TRILOBITES.

Fits Anywhere

In the pocket, on the harness, or even on the wrist for effortless access.

The TRILOBITE‘s compact form factor makes it easy to use in tight or complex spaces.

The EEZYCUT TRILOBITE is easily used in both hands. It is not only ambidextrous, but right handed users find it remarkably easy to use in the left hand. This flexibility in the design, along with the double sided design, makes it an ideal tool for self rescue.

How To Use

The specially patented mechanism means that this unique tool requires different techniques to traditional products. This page should help you get the most out of the device.

Due to the TOLERANCES on the slot onto which the blade sits, it is impossible to get the blade to align exactly perfectly in the middle. As a result, the blade will tend to marginally lean to one side more than the other. The user can notice this at times, as the tool feels different cutting on one side than it does on the other.

The TRILOBITE is rated to cut line up to 8mm thick, but it can cut up to 12mm. The tool works at it’s best when there is tension on the line. The tool cuts excellently without tension, as can be seen in the video gallery, but the best results are achieved when the user puts tension on the line being cut.

The tool can be held with the index finger and thumb over the slot, or with the index finger extended over the front of the frame. BY HOLDING THE TOOL WITH THE INDEX FINGER OVER THE SLOT, THE TOOL IS CHANGED INTO A ONE-SIDED CUTTING TOOL. Which ever way you use it, be sure to not cut yourself on the blade. The blade is well protected from your hands, but it is not fool proof, and can easily cause injury if handled too clumsily. Be careful to not injure yourself returning the tool to it’s sheath. When the line is in the slot, just pull back at the elbow and watch it slice through.

The TRILOBITE is rated to effortlessly cut line up to 8mm. However, with the right techniques, it is easy to cut line up to 12mm, as this video shows.

The TRILOBITE is rated to cut webbing of all thicknesses. The tool works best when there is tension on the webbing.
To cut webbing optimally, there is a different cutting action to that required to cut line. For best results, extend your index finger over the front of the frame, as in the images below. While pulling back, with the webbing in the slot, push the front of the tool down with the index finger, like a hooking claw. The movement comes from the wrist. Try to get a cut on the webbing before it reaches the end of the arm.

Use Nitrile gloves for protection. Unscrew the hex nuts. Open the tool at the front via the “pry hole”. Gently open the tool, including at the LOCATORS. Lift off the blade and dispose of it safely. Insert the new blade, and shut tight with the hex nuts. Push the tool together at the locators. You can either close the arms firmly with your fingers, or very gently with a set of pliers. Be careful not to over tighten, as the ends may incur slight fissures. While not being welcomed, if this does occur, it is in no way detrimental to the function of the tool.

Pouch Options

The TRILOBITE comes with a variety of carrying options so you can choose the implementation that’s best for your needs.
